Mary Alice Ray, 90, of McCullough Lane died at 9:55 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at the Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.


Mrs. Ray was a food service worker. She worked at Irwin Union Bank, Cummins Tech Center, Donner Center and Gene Brierly's Catering Service.


She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and attened Petersville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and flowers.


The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed & Jewell Chapel on 25th Street, with The Revs. Donald G. Bradley and Ida Easley officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.


Memorials may be made to Petersville United Methodist Church or to Hospice of South Central Indiana.


Born in Switzerland County March 10, 1914, Mrs. Ray was the daughter of Friedly and Mary Etta Bliton Elston. She married Russell Kenneth "Pete" Ray in March 1938 in Shelbyville.


Survivors include daughters, Sharon Kay Dickey, Janice Ballinger and Nancy Jones of Columbus; a son, James L. Ray of Columbus; sisters, Dorothy Page and Frieda Zeller of Shelbyville; brothers, Robert Elston of Milroy and Donald Elston of Enumclaw, Wash.; grandchildren, Gregory Dickey of Fort Wayne, Cheryl Dieckmann and Julie Woolls of Columbus, Corey Bailey of Greensburg and Tammy Emily of St. Clair, Mo.; and eight great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Eleanor McLaughlin and Kathryn Stuart.
