Amy Louise Parrish Jett
RICHMOND - Amy Louise Parrish Jett, 98, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was born on February 27, 1917 to Lula Wheeler and Jerry Parrish, and grew up in Madison County. She graduated from Model Lab. School in 1933 and married Paul Jett. She was the mother of four children: Emily Ellen Jett (deceased), Sally Smathers Davis (Richard) of Campton, NH, Sue Ann Reeves, and Paul David Jett both of Richmond, Kentucky. In 1970, she obtained a BS degree in Vocal Performance from Eastern Kentucky University. She sang in many choirs, including The Lexington Singers and The First Presbyterian Church chancel choir. For many years she volunteered each Sunday morning at the Pattie A. Clay Hospital with the Samaritan Singers,singing hymns to the patients and staff. She was a member of the Cecilian Club for 70+ years which is affiliated with the Kentucky Federation of Music Clubs and the National Federation of Music Clubs. She held the office of President in both local and state organizations as well as Foster Music Camp Chairperson for NFMC. She took a vital part in any organization in which she was a member, and made many contributions to Richmond as a supporter of the Arts. She always encouraged young musicians to work hard and use their talents. She helped them both financially as well as promoting them across the state. She worked for many years in the family owned business of Jett and Hall,sewing alterations and selling men's and women's clothing. Her love of gardening was never lacking in renewed enthusiasm each spring and summer when her collection of daylilies bloomed. She was a devoted member of The First Presbyterian Church of Richmond, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Paul Jett; her parents, her brother: Francis D. Parrish; daughter-in-law: Margene Hatch Jett; son-in-law: Charles Paul Reeves and grandson: Stephen Wheeler Jett. In addition to her children, she is survived by grandchildren: Amy L. Reeves (Mike Debord), Paul C. Reeves (Janet), Kevin Smathers (Alison), David Smathers (Patricia), Daniel W. Smathers, Neal Jettpace (Lynn) and Lucy J. Waterbury (Ethan). She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday afternoon, November 15, 2015 at 3pm at The First Presbyterian Church, 330 West Main Street, Richmond, KY. A reception will follow at 4pm in the Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the "love fund" of the First Presbyterian Church, P.O.
